Medical Officer
Instructional Services Division
We are recruiting for a talented Medical Officer to join our dedicated team. This professional will report directly to the County Superintendent of Education and will uphold the values and mission of the Orange County Department of Education while making significant contributions such as:
- Serving as an advisor in the development of comprehensive integrated physical and mental health programs and services for Orange County schools.
- Providing medical and mental health consultation to school boards, school nurses, special and general education staff, and other district personnel.
- Assisting with emergency and crisis management, responding to the needs of school communities.
- Providing medical expertise to select school-based clinics.
- Consulting on emergent public health threats in accordance with laws and regulations of the state of California.
- Facilitating agency partnerships to champion children’s health.
The selected candidate will be a Board Certified Pediatrician or Family Practice Physician with a medical degree from an accredited college or university and course work in public health. Good candidates will also have experience working with the community or in community medicine, and solid knowledge and skills pertaining to:
- Recent research findings and trends relating to school health and the administration of pharmaceuticals.
- Universal precautions and control of infectious diseases.
- Integration of physical and mental health services.
- Interpretation and explanation of state laws, codes, and regulations concerning physical and mental health related issues in the school setting.
- Public speaking, and preparing clear and concise technical reports and recommendations both orally and in writing.

Compensation

This position is a full-time, 12 month assignment, with a salary range of $127,464 to $155,388 per year.
